Mystery Sky Explosion in Alaska

Author: Taz | Files under Space

image Residents near the town of Tok saw a mysterious explosion shooting through the Alaska sky on Monday.  A loud explosion or sonic boom drew people outside where they saw irregular contrails in the clear sky.

Officials think it may have been a meteor falling from space.  There were no reports of falling debris.  Many people called 911.

Kathy Olding was outdoors loading a sled with firewood for her house when she was startled by an explosion.  Even her Chesapeake Bay retriever was rattled, its ears cocked as it peered into the sky.  “I could kind of hear it still rumbling, like thunder,” she said.  “I thought, what in the world?”  She looked up into the sky and saw the oddest contrail.  “It was just like somebody took a pen and made a white cloud that went up and down and up and down and squiggly,” she said, describing the pattern she saw.
