In spite of all our differences, the one thing that binds all living creatures is that we each have an expiration date. This guaranteed finality to our existence is what makes life special, something to be cherished and protected.

Because we value life, we are mindful and fearful of the thing that ends it: death. Many people have faith that something will come after life, be it heaven or hell, or even possibly another chance through reincarnation. Still others believe we simply decompose into atoms that disperse as another form of energy, perhaps dirt that may someday grow a tree, or smoke drifting out a crematorium.

Simply put, humans are fascinated by death and disaster. We are all natural-born rubberneckers, and there is plenty to watch. Because no matter how hard we try to bubble-wrap life, occasionally things can go terribly wrong.

Lookout-Below.com examines the accidents, disasters, destruction and death that affect our human existence. We promise to approach the subject in a tasteful and respectful manner. May god bless each of the souls of the people and animals who have suffered or died in the events described on this website.
