High-Wire Artist Dangles After Fall

Author: Taz | Files under Entertainment, Oops

A Chinese high-wire artist slipped as he attempted to walk across a cable hundreds of feet in the air with no safety net.  Saimaiti Aijiang would have plunged to his death had he not been able to grab the cable, which usually suspends a cable car.  Aijiang was attempting to break a world record and was about two-thirds of the way across the nearly half-mile gorge in Tianmengshan, China, a scenic tourist stop.

A climber rescued Aijiang’s by sliding along the cable and securing him to a harness so he could be lowered to the ground.  Once on solid Earth, Aijiang broke down in tears and sobbed on his mom’s shoulder.  His hands were sliced and bloody from hanging on the thin wire.

Woman Wanders into Market with Severed Head of Attacker

Author: Taz | Files under Casualties: Low, Crime

Doonesbury A woman chopped the head off a man who allegedly tried to attack her and then paraded the severed head through a market in northern India.  Police arrested the woman after receiving calls from frightened shoppers who reported a blood-soaked woman carrying a severed head through the village.

The woman, 35, told police she had gone to a nearby forest to cut grass for her cattle when the man attacked her from behind.  To save herself, she beheaded her assailant with a sickle.  The woman had bite marks on her neck and cheek.  The woman also told police that the man had been stalking and harassing her for three months and that she had no regrets about killing him.  Police said they will likely charge her with culpable homicide, which is odd considering this sounds like a case of self-defense.

Rampaging Elephant Kills 7

Author: Taz | Files under Animals, Casualties: Medium

image An elephant rampaged through a village in northern India, killing at least seven people and injuring 24 others who tried to surround the crazed animal.

The female elephant apparently became separated from its herd and entered the village of Bhudaheda on the edge of the Jim Corbett National Park.  After the animal flattened some crops, a group of people surrounded the elephant and starting shouting and beating drums, at which point the elephant went berserk and started trampling people.

Police shot the elephant twice, but it was still running amok.  Wildlife officials were ordered to shoot and kill the elephant on sight.

There have been many recent incidents of wild animals attacking villagers in India.  The problem is growing as natural habitats shrink, and animals have to search wider areas for food.

A former “Mr. Gay UK” slit his lovers’ throat and marinated his chopped flesh after having a sexual encounter with him.

Professional chef Anthony Morley, 35, murdered his gay lover Damien Oldfield.  Morley cut pieces of flesh from his victim’s thigh and cooked them in herbs and spices.  He chewed a piece of Oldfield’s seasoned flesh before tossing it in the kitchen trash.  A drunk and bloody Morley then walked into a nearby restaurant and said, “I have killed someone, call the police.”

When police arrived at the scene, they found Oldfield’s naked body on Morley’s bedroom floor.  Oldfield had been attacked from behind, stabbed 20 times and had his throat cut.

Morley later told police that Oldfield had tried to rape him.  “I know what I have done is wrong,” Morley said, “but at least he won’t be able to do it again,” referring to the alleged rape attempt.  Morley claims he acted in self-defense.

Flame Thrower

A man in Austria used a homemade flamethrower to kill his wife’s elderly parents.  Then the 48-year-old man attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach.  He is in a coma but expected to survive.

Police don’t know the man’s motives.  First the man spread gas in the bedroom of his 84-year-old in-laws, then lit a propane bottle on fire and threw it at them, burning them alive.

His mother-in-law suffered from diabetes and had amputated legs, so she was unable to flee.  His father-in-law did escape but died soon after.  The attack caught the apartment on fire, but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to other apartments.

Heron vs. Rabbit

Author: Taz | Files under Animals

HeronVsRabbit

MailOnline has published a dramatic series of pictures that show how cruel nature can be sometimes.  The photos show the moment a gray heron catches a baby rabbit by its ears, drowns it in a nearby pond, then swallows the rabbit whole.

Herons eat mostly fish but will also grab birds and small mammals if convenient.  The heron in this photo was searching for a meal when it spotted the baby rabbit emerging from a hole.

Wildlife photographer Ad Sprang captured the dramatic photos in Vianen, Holland.  "I was trying to get some nice shots of this gray heron," Sprang said.  "After taking several shots, a little rabbit appeared out of a hole.  The heron was interested in it and slowly approached the little rabbit.  You could feel the tension."

Teen Survives Knife in Skull

Author: Taz | Files under Casualties: Low, Crime

A 15-year-old British boy survived a violent assault at a bus stop last year.  Now British police have released an X-ray of the victim’s skull with the knife still embedded.  Police hope the photo will publicize the story and help them catch the two suspects who are still at large.

The victim was stabbed in the forehead last November when he and two friends tried to stop a robbery at a bus stop in south London.  The boy’s friends were also stabbed.  The victim was rushed to the hospital with the kitchen knife still stuck in his head.  Doctors said the teen would have died if anyone had tried to remove the knife.

Police arrested one of the three suspects because he dropped a hat and cell phone while fleeing.  He will be sentenced next month.
